The purpose of the Long Term Care Design Guide is to illustrate the concepts, principles and practices to be utilized as guidelines for well-designed facilities that enhance the quality of service to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) clients. The objective is to support the VA in its efforts to provide top quality healthcare environments that are well designed and constructed to provide state-of-the-art services to their clients. The Design Guide is a tool to be used to develop a healing and nurturing environment enabling a client/resident/ family focused experience, while avoiding excess and extravagance.

Spinal Cord Injury Center Design Guide

We provided services to convert the hard copy format of the VA’s Design Guide for Spinal Cord Injury Center into an electronic format. The VA provided the original in hard copy format. We examined the original and electronic format considering cost of conversion, this including scanning, re-typing and redrawing some of the images. This project set the standards for the prototype for the covers and formatting of the VA Department of Facilities Management Design Centers Design Guide.

LVA Hospital Design Guide

The purpose of the project is to convert the hard copy format of the VA Hospital Building System Research Study Report (Red Book) into an electronic format. Services also include development and compilation of graphics, charts, tables and figures with the electronic text available from the VA.

Work Performed:

• Conversion of approximately 250 graphics, charts, tables and figures into an electronic format and the addition of approximately 15 photographs.

• Review of VA furnished electronic text and compare with hard copy format for completeness and accuracy.

• Coordinate location of graphics, charts, tables and figures and photographs with the text and place them where shown on hard copy format. The text portion is approximately 550 pages.

• Provide hard copy and master CD of the document in MS Word format. Photos Graphics, charts, tables and figures are to be in a readily graphics accessible as determined appropriate.

• Provide CD with documents in PDF or other format for internet read only access.
